It is the Marauders philosophy that cheerleaders in youth sports should have fun first and secondly, learn how to perform cheers, stunts and half-time routines. The opportunity to showcase their cheer skills comes at cheer competitions.
UC Davis Cheer Competition
The DVYFC requires that all teams in the League compete in the DVYFC Davis Cheer Competition. This Competition is held at UC Davis on November 8th and lasts an entire day.
The Walnut Festival
The Marauders march every year in the Walnut Festival parade. The parade route is down Main Street in Walnut Creek and the cheerleaders will perform in front of judges and many spectators in friendly competition with other teams. This parade is in September.
There are also a number of other Competitions held in the Bay Area that our cheerleaders and mascots may want to attend. At the beginning of the season our parents, athletes, coaches and board will decide as a group whether to participate. Should the majority want to participate, it will require that all cheerleaders attend as a squad, partial squads cannot compete. In the past, we have participated at the Santa Cruz and Marine World competitions. These are included in your registration fees and include an all-day ride pass. Parents are responsible for transportation and hotel fees if they choose to arrive the night before.
Six Flags Discovery Kingdom-Frightfest Classic
The Marauder Cheerleaders also compete with other squads from the region at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, CA. A fee is required to compete in this activity. For more information, please contact our Cheer Director, Renee Morgan, @yahoo.com.
CAMPS
There are a variety of summer cheerleading camps that aren’t required to cheer for the Marauders, but just as with football, additional practice and instruction helps prepare our cheerleaders for the season. The following camps are recommended by the Marauders:
-Mandatory DVYFC Cheerleading Clinic: This is a DVYFC-sanctioned cheerleader camp. The camp will be held August 6-7th at Charlotte Wood Middle School in Danville, CA. More information can be found at DVYFC.net or by contacting our Marauder Cheerleader Director, Renee Morgan, at reneesmorgan@yahoo.com.
-Jamz Cheer (Jamzcheer.com)
-Power Cheer All-Star Camp (sportscampconnection.com/california-cheerleading-camp-CA/)
Individual stretching exercises are recommended as well and will help ensure each cheerleader is ready for the season.
